How Do I Clean My Rubber Stamp?

Maybe you’ve just purchased a new stamp or you’ve discovered one sitting in your drawer that hasn’t been used for a while – either way, you’re looking to get the best performance out of it. Properly cared for, a rubber stamp can deliver thousands of razor-sharp impressions, but the inverse is also true – without the right TLC, expect smudging and worse.

Clean early and often

Stamp cleaning isn’t something that you can just put off – for crisp and clear impressions each and every time, you need to give it a once-over after ever use. Whether you’ve chosen our Self Inking Rubber Stamp or Traditional Rubber Stamp, the process is the same – it all starts with your trusty baby wipes. This will quickly and cleanly remove the ink from the rubber base of your customised rubber stamp, preventing it drying out and negatively affecting future impressions while leaving it ready to use the next time you pick it up.

More detailed cleaning

Depending on how often you use your stamp, you may want to do a more thorough clean. This doesn’t take any special equipment – just an old toothbrush and some warm soapy water.
For Self Inking Stamps, first lock the mechanism by pushing the button on the side. Then, carefully clean the face of the stamp with the toothbrush so it gets into those tight crevices. Dry your stamp with some hand towel and BINGO your customised Rubber Stamp is back to its original best.
Do not use alcohol-based cleansers on your stamp! It is important that you avoid using alcohol during the cleaning process as this will dry out the rubber and will reduce the life of your stamp.
